Join playwright and theater director Eric Butler for an interactive acting and scene-study workshop conducted live on Microsoft Teams.
Eric's theatrical work includes Don't Tell Grandma I Met Him Online, selected to participate in the D.C. Black Theatre Festival for two consecutive years and performed at Howard University's prestigious Ira Aldridge Theater, and Bullying: The New B-Word, presented at the Kennedy Center REACH.
WORKSHOP TOPICS INCLUDE:
Script reading and analysis
Identifying beats and understanding subtext
Character motivation and development
Timing, rhythm, intonation, and natural pauses
Listening, reacting, and believable dialogue
Preparation for auditions, film, and stage performances
BRING YOUR OWN SCRIPT!
Have an audition coming up? Working on a challenging scene? Bring your own material and receive practical instruction and constructive direction to help strengthen your performance.
Short scenes from the instructor's original theatrical productions may also be used for teaching and demonstration.
ACTING WORKSHOPS & PRIVATE COACHING
1. WEEKLY GROUP ACTING & SCENE STUDY WORKSHOP
$35 per actor — 90 minutes
Limited to four participants per session to allow individual attention.
Work on script interpretation, character motivation, identifying beats, timing, and natural dialogue delivery in a small, interactive group setting.
2. PRIVATE ONE-ON-ONE ACTING COACHING
$65 per hour
Individual instruction in character development, script interpretation, scene study, timing, and performance technique.
Ideal for actors seeking personalized direction and more in-depth character development.
3. PRIVATE AUDITION PREPARATION
$50 — 45 minutes
Have an audition coming up? Receive focused, one-on-one coaching on your audition material.
Learn how to identify beats, interpret your character, strengthen your delivery, and approach your audition with greater confidence.
FLEXIBLE ENROLLMENT
Attend one group session or return as often as you need. No long-term commitment or multiweek enrollment required.
Whether you're preparing for an upcoming audition, developing a character, or simply looking to improve your acting skills, each workshop provides hands-on instruction designed to help strengthen your performance.
Beginners and actors with experience are welcome.
LOCATION & SCHEDULING
All workshops and private coaching sessions are conducted live online through Microsoft Teams.
Weekly group sessions are offered by advance registration.
Private coaching and audition preparation are available by appointment.
Additional group sessions may be scheduled as enrollment increases.
