Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, driven Project Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Leadership to coordinate and manage mechanical construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
This position offers a strong career path toward Project Management while providing hands-on experience on complex, high-impact mechanical projects across the islands.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Administration
• Submittals & RFIs: Manage, track, and review equipment and material submittals, product data, shop drawings, and Requests for Information (RFIs) for accuracy and compliance with contract documents.
• Document Control: Maintain up-to-date project records, including plans, specifications, change orders, meeting minutes, and as-built drawings.
• Procurement: Assist with material and equipment buyout, track lead times, and coordinate jobsite deliveries with field operations.
• Estimating & Change Orders: Help compile cost estimates, scope modifications, and pricing for proposed change orders.
Field Coordination & Engineering
• BIM / Coordination: Collaborate with the drafting/VDC team, mechanical subcontractors, and trade partners to resolve physical clashes in MEP coordination models.
• Quality & Safety: Perform periodic jobsite walk-throughs to verify construction aligns with contract specs, local mechanical/plumbing codes, and company safety standards.
• Subcontractor Management: Coordinate work scopes and progress with specialty subcontractors and vendors.
Financial & Closeout Operations
• Billing Assistance: Assist Project Managers with monthly schedule of values (SOV) pay applications and subcontractor billing reviews.
• Project Closeout: Compile O&M manuals, warranty documentation, commissioning reports, test and balance (TAB) logs, and final punch lists to deliver seamless project handoffs.
Qualifications & Skills
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent combination of trade experience and education.
• Experience: 1–3+ years of engineering or construction experience (commercial mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing experience strongly preferred).
• Technical Proficiency:
o Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam Revu, MS Project).
o Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks is a strong plus.
o Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Skills:
o Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, MEP plans, and project specifications.
o Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Location & Travel Requirements
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and currently reside in (or be willing to relocate to) Hawaii.
• Ability to travel to local construction sites across Oahu (and neighbor islands as required).
