Sentinel Glass is hiring a Project Manager to take full ownership of glazing and envelope projects from award through to closeout. You will be the single point of contact for general contractors, property managers, consultants and owners, and you will hold real authority over schedule, procurement and subcontractor selection. Not a coordinator seat. Not a drafting seat.
Our work spans commercial glass replacement in occupied towers, fire-rated glazing restoration, custom skylights, storefront and curtain wall systems, and high-end residential glazing across Metro Vancouver and the Sea to Sky corridor. Jobs range from a single unit replacement to multi-hundred-unit envelope programs. Crane picks, rope access, swing stage and boom lift work are routine.
What a typical week actually looks like
You might book a crane for a Monday glass delivery and confirm the pick window with the fabricator's shipping lead, get a sidewalk waiver signed by the owner, walk twenty suites in an occupied tower recording glass sizes and conditions, answer a consultant's field report asking for fastener photos, chase an extrusion supplier who has gone quiet on a time-sensitive quote, code eight supplier invoices to the right projects, tell a general contractor that a delivery has slipped two weeks and what you are doing about it, and get four crew booked into a site orientation for the following Monday.
Expect to be on site two to three days most weeks. This is a working project management role. The common thread is that nothing moves unless someone drives it. That is the job.
What you will own
- Project delivery and clients
- Own assigned projects end to end: setup, schedule, execution, deficiency resolution, closeout
- Act as primary contact for GCs, property managers, consultants, architects and owners
- Issue written progress updates proactively — before the client has to ask
- Respond to RFIs, deficiency notices and consultant field reports with substantiated answers and photo evidence
- Coordinate access in occupied buildings: tenant notification, suite-by-suite scheduling, building management sign-off, after-hours windows
- Conduct site visits, surveys and field measurements; produce accurate take-offs and unit schedules
- Run QC follow-up, close punch lists and warranty callbacks, issue completion notices and closeout packages
- Technical documentation and CAD
- Coordinate shop drawings with our external drafting vendors and fenestration engineer — you brief them, you review what comes back, you catch what is wrong
- Work in AutoCAD daily: open, mark up, dimension and modify drawings as the job changes, and issue clean revisions
- Prepare detail submittals for client and consultant approval and track them to sign-off
- Maintain revision control so the shop, the field and the engineer are working from the same set
- Prepare weight and load summaries for crane vendor consultation
- You will not be producing full shop drawing packages from scratch — that sits with our drafting vendors. You do need to be genuinely proficient in AutoCAD, because you will be modifying and issuing drawings regularly.
Procurement and suppliers
- Issue RFQs to glass fabricators, extrusion suppliers, fire-rated system suppliers, metal fabricators and hardware vendors
- Review quotations for scope and technical accuracy before ordering — catch errors in sizes, quantities, makeups and finishes
- Issue and track POs through acknowledgement, production, packing slip and delivery
- Chase lead times and escalate when a supplier is putting a schedule at risk
- Document quality deficiencies and shipping damage with photographic evidence
- Support sales team reviewing project scopes and validating tender allowances
- Site logistics and subcontractors
- Book and coordinate cranes, boom lifts, scissor lifts, glass manipulators and specialty lifting equipment
- Engage rope access technicians, traffic control, flaggers, labourers, abatement contractors and welders
- Obtain street use permits, sidewalk closures, delivery waivers and site access approvals
- Sequence deliveries against crew availability, site readiness and equipment windows
Engineering and compliance
- Coordinate with our fenestration engineering consultant on field reviews, stamped drawings, thermal reports and Schedule S-B / S-C documentation
- Close out Actions Required items on engineering field reports
- Distribute stamped drawings and schedules to GCs, consultants and building inspectors on the timeline the project needs
- Cost control and billing
- Identify out-of-scope work as it arises, price it, issue the change order, and secure written approval before work proceeds
- Track change orders through to billing so approved extras do not go unbilled
- Validate T&M invoicing against what was actually performed
- Track committed and actual costs against budget and flag overruns early
- Keep documentation current in Smartsheet and Dropbox
Crew and safety
- Plan crew requirements and communicate them to the Senior Foreman with enough lead time to be actionable
- Arrange site-specific orientations and keep certification records current
- Ensure safety documentation, tickets and equipment inspection certificates are in place before crews mobilize
What we require [DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DON'T HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THE GLASS INDUSTRY]
- Five or more years managing projects in glazing, curtain wall, windows, façade or building envelope work
- Working knowledge of both glazing systems and building envelope — IGU makeups, coatings, tempered and laminated glass, thermal performance, fire-rated assemblies, storefront and curtain wall, and how the glazing interfaces with the wall assembly around it. This is a hard requirement, not an asset.
-Proficient in AutoCAD — you can open a drawing set, navigate it, mark it up, modify details and issue a clean revision without supervision
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings and specifications, and to spot when a quote does not match the drawing
- Experience pricing change orders and extras, and the discipline to get them approved in writing before work proceeds
- Demonstrated experience coordinating cranes, elevated work platforms or rope access on live sites
- Strong written communication — much of this role is email with clients, consultants and suppliers, and it has to be clear, professional and unambiguous
- Comfort running several projects at once and holding many open threads without dropping them
- Valid BC driver's licence
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Nice to have
- Familiarity with BC building permit processes and Schedule S-B / S-C letters of assurance
- Experience in occupied commercial or residential towers with tenant coordination
- Experience with fire-rated glazing systems
- Smartsheet, Dropbox
- CSO training, WHMIS, fall protection or aerial work platform certification
