Description:
The Vivitar 283 is an iconic, rugged, and highly modular auto-thyristor flash first introduced in 1972. Revered for its power and reliability, it is widely used by both vintage film photographers and modern strobists. Powered by four AA batteries or via the included AC adapter, it features a Guide Number of 120 (ft/ISO 100) and an adjustable 90-degree tilting head.
Key Features & Operation:
•Auto Thyristor Settings: The flash features a removable sensor on the front that automatically measures light bouncing off your subject, cutting off the flash output exactly when exposure is met. Four color-coded auto ranges give you control over your depth of field.
•Calculator Dial: The back of the flash has an illuminated, rotating calculator dial. Just input your film ISO, and it will give you the precise camera aperture settings to use based on your distance to the subject.
•Modular Design: The 283 is famous for its ecosystem of accessories, including wide-angle diffusers, Vario-Power (VP-1) modules for manual output, and off-camera extension cords.
