My fan was making noise, increasing as the speed was increased. I thought it was a bearing going bad so I had Meineke replace the unit. Asking for the old part, I found the fan cage covered with white insulation. I removed it and checked for any imbalance or bearing issue and none found.
I assume the noise was from insulation from the HVAC system breaking loose and getting inside the fan.
