A magnificent Cordoza Console from the prestigious Jason Scott Collection, masterfully handcrafted in Java, Indonesia.

With its bold architectural form and extraordinary depth of carving, this is functional furniture elevated to the level of sculpture. Four dramatic openwork legs support a substantial, richly grained top, while a ribbed stretcher draws the eye toward an intricately carved floral medallion at the center. Three drawers are framed by elaborate hand carved detailing and finished with handsome metal ring pulls.

This is no ordinary teak furniture. Jason Scott pieces are created from reclaimed teak salvaged from old structures throughout Java, giving remarkable timber a second life. The wood is prized for its density, strength, natural oils, dimensional stability and exceptional longevity. Its richly varied grain, warm tonal depth and beautifully aged character cannot be replicated by mass produced furniture made from newly processed wood.

Jason Scott’s artisans employ a distinctive multistep finishing process that includes wire brushing, scraping, burning, waxing, rubbing and kiln drying. These labor intensive techniques reveal the teak’s natural character and create the richly layered, time worn finish for which the collection is known. Every variation in color and grain contributes to the individuality of the finished piece.

Commanding yet graceful, the Cordoza makes an unforgettable statement in an entryway, dining room or living area. Its three generously sized drawers provide useful storage while preserving the sculptural beauty of the design.

This piece is part of my late mother’s expansive estate, which is filled with fine furnishings, artwork and many other wonderful items. We are preparing for a large estate sale and offering some of the larger pieces first to create room for display tables.
