PlaSteel is a family-owned, ISO 9001 and AS9100 certified, ITAR-compliant precision machine shop serving the aerospace, defense, medical, and semiconductor industries.
We are seeking an experienced Quality Inspector / CMM Operator to inspect precision machined plastic and metal components. The ideal candidate has hands-on CMM operating experience, strong dimensional inspection skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
CMM operating experience is required. Programming experience is preferred but not required.
What You'll Do
• Set up and operate CMM equipment using established inspection programs.
• Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Inspect components using calipers, micrometers, height gages, bore gages, and other precision measuring equipment.
• Complete and support AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports.
• Document inspection results and identify nonconforming material.
• Review material and outside processing certifications.
• Work closely with machinists, production personnel, and quality leadership to resolve inspection issues.
• Assist with CMM program modifications and new inspection routines as experience allows.
Required Qualifications
• 2+ years of quality or dimensional inspection experience in precision manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience operating CMM equipment and running existing inspection programs.
• Ability to set up parts and interpret CMM measurement results.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T.
• Proficiency with conventional precision measuring instruments.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, and documentation skills.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening, including THC/marijuana.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience modifying or creating CMM inspection programs.
• Familiarity with PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, or similar CMM software.
• AS9102 First Article Inspection experience.
• Experience inspecting machined plastic and metal components.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality systems.
• Aerospace, defense, medical, or semiconductor manufacturing experience.
