The Walters Axe Company operated out of Hull, Quebec, from the mid-1800s until around 1973. The Black Diamond line was their top-tier, highest-grade offering, prized for using exceptional, hard-tempered steel that holds a razor edge.
• The Pattern: This profile is a classic Montreal pattern (which Walters often referred to as their "Tomahawk" pattern). It features a heavily flared, sweeping toe (the top corner of the blade) and a thin, highly efficient cutting profile.
• The Vintage: The partial olive-green factory paint on the upper half of the handle is standard for Walters utility, camp, and boys' axes produced between the 1940s and 1960s.
• Walters heavily relied on temporary paper labels for most of their standard lines, the "Black Diamond" is unique because it was actually stamped directly into the steel head.
