Amazon wants to use more of its own chips in future Fire TVs, Echos, and Kindles

While Amazon has used its in-house AZ chips in various Echo devices for on-device AI tasks such as speech recognition, computer vision, and some local Alexa processing, it still relies primarily on MediaTek and Amlogic SoCs for general-purpose device processing. That may soon change, as supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is reporting that Amazon is making moves to shift devices like Fire TVs, Echos, Kindles, and more to use in-house processors rather than buying from third parties.
The new strategy is said to start in 2027 and result in the production of approximately 40 million self-developed processors in the first year.
