Vintage Persian Nain rug was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug is 60+ years old, has full to medium wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. This rug has knots per square inch in excess of 300. Distinguished by its luminous ivory ground, rich midnight-blue central medallion, and beautifully coordinated champagne, soft caramel, and muted gold accents, this exquisite carpet offers a graceful interpretation of classical Persian design. The composition is anchored by a beautifully articulated, elongated midnight-blue medallion filled with intricate floral blossoms, delicate scrolling vines, and finely arranged botanical elements. Its symmetrical design radiates outward into an elaborate ivory field enriched with graceful arabesques, flowering branches, stylized palmettes, and ornamental floral cartouches. Warm champagne and honey-toned accents lend depth and softness to the design, creating a harmonious balance between rich contrast and understated elegance. It is signed at one end with the text bearing a woven inscription in Persian script near one end, possibly reading Reza. This rug was acquired from a Virginia estate. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $25.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Please see all of our rugs, book sets, fine art and Asian art at www.rug-auction.com.
Hardly any other hand-knotted rug is as appreciated as the Nain. Nain carpets belong to the finest handicrafts of Iran. The city lies on the border of one of Iran's largest deserts, the Dasht-e-Kavir. Hardly anyone has not seen a Nain carpet, at least in pictures. The excellent quality and the fine knotting make Nain rugs a highly sought-after piece of craftsmanship by rug connoisseurs. Traditional Nain patterns have a central medallion surrounded by floral patterns. Not to be denied is the resemblance to rugs from the nearby town of Isfahan. Typically, Nain carpets are dyed red, blue or beige on the surface. Particularly fine Nain rugs are made entirely of silk. These silk carpets naturally have higher prices than those made of wool, for example. If you are looking for special luxury, you will find what you are looking for in Nain rugs.
