This is not really a "job", but sort of a coaching / mentoring / tutoring / assistant "gig", for occasional meetings. It could possibly become a regular meeting maybe 2 to 4 hours at a time.
Probably you would meet as a "Credit Advisor", then go into the related areas of budgeting and such.
The immediate need is that he wants to buy a house but his credit is not remotely qualified for that. So needs coaching.
He probably needs some patient, gentle, and empathetic guidance to face reality and find the next steps. Probably needs to work on improving his credit, maybe find an owner-financed fixer-upper.
Not sure if he is thinking to remodel and flip a house, or if he is trying to buy something to live in. Not sure in what state either! (Could be Ohio, CA, or elsewhere.)
Healthy young man, 33, starved in foreign orphanage, Special-ed background, high-functioning, smart, but poor education. Very active, self-employed hard worker, self-starter. Poor arithmetic.
Looking for someone skilled at budgeting who can assist someone who is emotionally more like a teen. Some simple arithmetic is necessary for working with personal and business budgets, so some tutoring there may be needed.
Beginning as a "Credit Advisor", you may be able to help him improve such skills as:
- Budgeting etc. (personal and business)
- Pricing -- he likely doesn't charge enough for his work
- Responsibility -- A key to success can be actively looking for where to be more responsible.
- Goal-Setting -- Setting ambitious goals and finding concrete steps (such as improving the necessary skills) toward reaching them.
Can a person's level of arithmetic proficiency affect nearly every aspect of their life? I think so.
He is usually very willing to accept help from a tutor or "assistant". You will by degrees find ways to help him build awareness and self-sufficiency with numbers, budgets, money.
- Best if you have some sort of financial or budgeting experience.
- He likes meetups to be in-person.
- You should be very computer-literate. You may be able to help him use spreadsheets, project-software, smartphone apps, to organize his budgets. If you have experience using AI and can coach him in that, could be very helpful. (But don't worry, I will find an AI coach!)
- Great if you have used some sort of bookkeeping software. Not required.
- Tutoring experience welcome, especially if you have tutored students with learning differences, but not required.
- Best if you have worked with people "neuro-divergent" or "on the Spectrum", but not required.
- If you are particularly empathic, or have been a life coach, or have participated in some sort of life-changing practice or large-group awareness-training, could help. Not required.
Please send a resume, or just a few sentences about your applicable experience, skills, and knowledge. Please include your phone number to expedite contact. Thank you!
Schedule:
- At least initially, this CANNOT be scheduled like "4 hours each Monday and Thursday at 3pm."
- When the first few meetings have gone well, it may be possible to find repeatable time-slots.
- Number of hours per week is therefore unpredictable right now.
