Too bad they don’t make this any more, especially the real sugar variety. It had a great taste.
Hires Root Beer goes way back, invented by a Philadelphia pharmacist (Charles Elmer Hires) in 1876. Originally, he called it “Root Tea” but changed the tea to beer to appeal to the working class. Good move.
This mug was from the late 1970s to early 80s. Hew has the simple Hires logo. There’s a very small rim chip that isn’t noticeable from the outside, but the photos exaggerate it.
The fluted mug is heavy and stands 6 inches tall and 4 inches across at the top rim.
I can’t make out the full writing on the bottom (“Use as Container ______ for Hires _____ _____.”).
