USED vintage red, white, and blue “USA” steel TV / serving tray, with detachable metal legs. Unknown manufacturer. Not quite sure on age either, but based on the styling and the backstory, I would put this sometime between the mid-1960s and mid-1970s. The top is in the full red, white, and blue color scheme, with scalloped accents. The edges are rolled to prevent cuts and snags. The inner portion of the top is inset to contain drink spills, etc. The center features a red, white, and blue shield design with 13 stripes and 50 stars, just as the flag has. There is a red border stripe beyond this, and a blue border at the very edges. Four small plastic clips are riveted to the underside, which is unfinished, or perhaps finished in a clear coat. The legs are finished in white and have black plastic caps on the end to prevent scratches and marring of surfaces.
The legs are fully detachable so that the top can function as a serving tray, or so the unit can fold down for compact storage.
The top measures about 21-3/4” across, about 15-3/4” deep, and about 1” thick. With the legs fully attached, the unit measures about 24-1/4” tall.
With the exception of the plastic clips on the underside of the tray, the plastic caps at the bottoms of the legs, and possible exception of the rivets, this is all steel construction. Hopefully made in the USA based on the suspected age, but you never know, and I can’t find anything to confirm.
This comes from a move we are doing for my Mom outside of Pittsburgh. None of the kids have any use for it, so we are looking to find it a new home. My parents purchased the house in 1978, and brought this in with them, hence my estimation of the age.
The unit is in respectable, USED shape with some notable wear and tear and in spots. I was able to restore a lot of luster and former glory by going over everything with automotive rubbing compound, then a subsequent cleaning. You may be able to take more time and do an even better job with it, but nevertheless there are still some defects. There are a few small areas of missing paint and surface rust on the top. There is also about a nickel-sized dent in one area of the top. There are assorted scratches as well. The bottom has some light surface corrosion and rust in spots, as do the legs. When assembled, the unit won’t hold several hundred pounds, but it is structurally intact. The plastic clips are intact and the legs clip in securely. All in all, probably has just about the right amount of wear and tear for such a vintage piece, or you may choose to work on it a bit to restore.
This would make a great addition to any home, man cave, outdoor party, etc. Even though we've passed the 250th birthday, there's nothing keeping you from continuing to celebrate in style!
