Three bred cows for sale!
All come from my closed, organic, 100% grass-fed herd and will continue to thrive in a homestead environment. Our herd is tested clean from TB, brucellosis, leukosis, q fever, and BVD. They have been in with our proven bull since June 6th.
Shiver
Shiver is a 4 year old Jersey/Angus cow, who has been a star for homesteading. She was born on my farm in 2022 from my favorite cow, Dandy, an A2/A2 New Zealand Jersey with grass fed genetics. Both Shiver and Dandy have been exclusively grass fed for their entire lives, and stay fat and happy on pasture and grass hay, with supplemental alfalfa or alfalfa pellets when they are on the stand to be milked.
Because she is half Angus, Shiver has been an easy keeper her whole life and quickly outgrew her mother. She calves with ease, and her calves grow quickly.
Shiver has been hand milked on a stanchion as well as out in the field and has a great temperament for it. I have not machine milked her yet, but she has taken quickly to everything else we've done. She would also likely train well to being a nurse cow.
She halters, ties, and trailers with ease, and is bucket trained to alfalfa pellets. She is easy on permanent fences and also stays in with single stand electric poly wire.
She is currently dry, as I gave her a rest year (I rotate and rest my dairy cows). When she was in milk last year I was getting 1+ gallons/day while calf sharing (once/day milking) and taking days off (I was only milking on an as-needed basis, so would milk anywhere from 2-4 days/week), on just pasture and a few cups of alfalfa pellets whenever I tied her to milk.
Lila
Lila is an 8 year old, A1/A2 ½ Jersey ½ Limousin. She is one of the founding cattle that I began my herd with in 2019. Like Shiver, she stays fat and happy on pasture and grass hay, with supplemental alfalfa or alfalfa pellets when she is being milked.
She calves with ease, makes beautiful babies, and is trained to hand milking, machine milking, and being a nurse cow. Her preference in jobs seems to be as a nurse cow, but she settles into whatever I need most each year.
She halters, ties, and trailers with ease (and loves to stick her nose out like a dog when we're hauling 😆), and is bucket trained to alfalfa pellets.
She is easy on permanent fences and also stays in with single stand electric poly wire.
Lila has also done well with a calf-share model and once/day milking. The last few years, she has been primarily a nurse cow, so I don't have current milk production numbers for her.
Harrow
Harrow is a 4 year old ½ Jereford, ¼ Limousin, ¼ Jersey cow. She was born on my farm in 2022 out of Lila. In frame and build, she takes after the Jersey side, so she's not much of a looker as a beef cow, but her calves tell a different story. She calves with ease and throws low birth weights, and then her calves grow like milk-fed weeds. I assume their particular plumpness comes from that extra jersey-boost in her milk. Since I have never used her for supplemental milking or as a nurse cow, her babies get to exclusively enjoy all that goodness.
Harrow is not halter trained, but she does load into a trailer easily, especially if there is alfalfa involved. She is bucket trained to alfalfa pellets. Like the other two, she is easy on permanent fences and also stays in with single stand electric poly wire.
I am downsizing my herd and focusing on Normandys and pure Jerseys, to no fault of any of these cows. They have all been wonderful and I want them to go to a good spot. Shiver is available now, Lila and Harrow will be available around December once their calves are weaned.
Because my primary concern is making sure these girls go to folks who will appreciate them and treat them well, I am willing to work with folks on price. PM me and let's talk about what you're needing.
