Octo Sports Pro LLC, an innovative sports entertainment startup based in Toms River, New Jersey, is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer, machine designer, precision fabricator, or skilled prototype builder to help develop a custom seating mechanism for our proprietary OctoKick seated soccer arena.
We have an existing racing-style bucket seat and a detailed conceptual rendering of the proposed assembly. We are looking for a hands-on professional who can translate the concept into a functional, durable, and safe prototype.
Project Description
We are developing a compact, stationary-base seating assembly that incorporates:
- 360-degree swivel rotation using a heavy-duty turntable or swivel bearing.
- Approximately 12 inches of lateral sliding movement (6 inches in either direction).
- Industrial linear guide rails, preferably HIWIN HG-series or equivalent.
- Low-profile steel or aluminum chassis with a stable, non-slip base.
- Smooth, low-friction movement without electric motors.
- Adjustable travel stops and appropriate shock absorption.
- Structural stability suitable for vigorous seated athletic activity.
The assembly must accommodate adult users weighing up to approximately 350 pounds, subject to engineering verification.
Ideal Candidate
We welcome inquiries from individuals with experience in one or more of the following:
- Mechanical engineering and machine design
- Custom machinery and mechanical prototyping
- CNC machining and precision metal fabrication
- Industrial linear motion systems and bearings
- Steel or aluminum chassis fabrication
- SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or comparable CAD software
- Custom automotive, racing simulator, or industrial seating mechanisms
You do not need to operate a large fabrication business. An experienced independent machinist, mechanical engineer, prototype builder, or technically skilled fabricator with access to the appropriate tools is encouraged to respond.
Scope of Work
1. Review our existing concept rendering and seat configuration.
2. Recommend appropriate mechanical components and design improvements.
3. Develop a practical design, including fabrication drawings and a parts list.
4. Fabricate or coordinate fabrication of one working prototype.
5. Assemble, test, and refine the mechanism for smooth movement, structural integrity, and safe operation.
We are initially seeking one functional prototype, with the possibility of additional units and an ongoing working relationship as OctoKick expands.
Compensation
Competitive, negotiable, project-based compensation commensurate with experience and scope. We are open to proposals covering engineering only, fabrication only, or complete turnkey development.
Location
TOMS RIVER, New Jersey. Preference for candidates located in Ocean, Monmouth, or surrounding counties who can inspect the existing seat and collaborate locally.
