Shopsmith 500 with 4 power accessories and many component tools.
After hand tools this is a full shop for wood working.
The Shopsmith is woodworking transformer tool that performs many functions using one stand and one variable speed motor, 1 switch, 1 chord and 1 outlet. It takes little more room than a bicycle at 6 feet long and 19 inches wide. The machine is in very good condition. Ser# 119299 model Mark V
It has been greased (mostly elbow grease) , oiled, cleaned, painted and waxed . Waxing preserves the metal from rusting and makes your woodwork glide over the tables with no resistance .
It has a 115 Volt Motor rated at 1 1/8 hp and pulls 13 -14 Amps. The speed varies from 700 to 5200 RPM for the main and upper auxiliary spindle, to 1.6 times faster for the lower spindle to between 1,120 rpm and 8,320 rpm .
The Shopsmith has a headstock (engine) where you just dial different speeds for different jobs. This is a high quality machine made of steel and aluminum castings and has NO PLASTIC. The engine area is clean of old sawdust and the quill spline, speed changers , and other moving parts cleaned, lubricated .and tested. The 2 upper tubes tilt up vertically to transform into a very functional drill press. This is the ideal tool for someone who enjoys working with wood and has limited space.
The following tooling comes with this machine.
Table Saw with arbor, rip fence, saw table, extension tables, 4 table inserts and a miter gauge
Maximum depth of cut at 3" , with the table tilted at 45 degrees the maximum depth of cut is 2 3/8". The saw blade stays vertical and the table adjusts to make compound angle cuts.
buffing wheel with extra arbor
wire wheel with its own arbor
Dado saw on its own arbor
new in box (NIB) shopsmith precision molding set
12" disk sander, special router chuck
1/2" jacobs chuck for drill press - Variable speed allows metal and wood drilling or flap and drum sanding

Mounting options includes spur center , live center, dead center , tail stock ,tailstock tool holder and tool rest
Lathe tool rest assembly- mounts in the carriage to support and guide the lathe chisels or grinding wheel or wire brush etc .

The lathe will turn 34 inches between centers or a 16 inch diameter bowl.
Lathe dead center or live center mount in the tail stock and supports the stock when spindle is turning.
Drill Press: Jacobs half inch chuck with key included. Drill bits with shanks 5/64 to half inch diameter can be used in the chuck. The throat capacity is 8 " enabling you to drill the center of a 16 " circle. With a router bit in the chuck it works well as an overhead router. See photo.
Horizontal Boring Machine: It uses the same drill chuck as the drill press. The table can be lowered 2 3/8 below the chuck, enabling you to end- bore the center of the boards up to 4" thick and any length.
Using the lathe tool rest and a spare arbor you can run a grind stone, wire wheels, flap sanders and buffing wheels.
Also included:
Rare 12" planer with good blades. This planer has a variable speed feed motor which allows you to dial t he speed based on quality of cut and hardness of the wood being fed. Most planers feed the wood from the same power driving the blades so there is no adjustment possible.
