1946 Studebaker 1-Ton Truck – Beautifully Restored, Incredible History & Classic American Charm!
Here’s a rare opportunity to own a beautiful piece of American automotive history!
This gorgeous 1946 Studebaker 1-ton truck has a wonderful story behind it. It remained in the same family from 1951 until its descendants commissioned a complete, ground-up restoration in 2008. The restoration was beautifully done, preserving the character and charm of this incredible post-war truck.
Following the restoration, the odometer was reset, and the truck was driven very little over the years. When I purchased it in 2025, it showed just 11 miles. I’ve since added approximately 120 miles, bringing the total to around 130 miles since restoration.
A True Vintage Driving Experience
Unlike the ½-ton M5, this 1-ton Studebaker features a four-speed, non-synchronized manual transmission with lower gearing. Driving it is a bit of an adventure, and that’s part of what makes it so much fun! It’s happiest cruising at a leisurely pace, and I generally keep it under 45–50 mph.
It’s the kind of truck that makes people smile. Every time I take it out, I get thumbs-up, waves, and conversations with people who appreciate seeing a beautiful old Studebaker on the road.
Recent Maintenance (2025):
* Carburetor rebuilt
* New spark plugs
* Oil and filter changed
* Wiper motors returned to working condition
The truck runs great once started. Cold starts can require a little coaxing, which is part of the experience of owning a nearly 80-year-old vehicle!
Condition & Details
The restoration is extensive and beautifully executed, and the truck presents exceptionally well. That said, I believe in being upfront about the little things that could use attention:
* Minor rust pitting on the rechromed front bumper
* Driver’s sun visor is missing
* Wiper motors work, but arms and blades are missing
* Very slight main seal oil leak (approximately 1–3 cc per month)
* Fuel gauge is inoperative
* Original temperature gauge is inoperative
* Heater fan needs to be wired (parts included)
* Small area of paint damage on the cab roof (approximately ¼” x 2”) from transport from Wisconsin
A Special Truck Looking for Its Next Caretaker
This Studebaker is truly something special. It’s beautiful, full of character, and a wonderful reminder of a different era of American craftsmanship.
I’ve priced it at less than what a comparable restoration would cost today. My hope is to find someone who appreciates its history and will have the time to enjoy it more often than I’ve been able to.
If you’ve been looking for a unique, beautifully restored vintage truck that turns heads everywhere it goes, this one deserves a look.
