SMALL APT or ROOM FOR COUPLE (Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Zion, Waukegan)

A few months ago we were staying in Milwaukee and we're affected by an apartment fire. The building was deemed uninhabitable, so we moved into an extended stay hotel. While it has been comfortable here, the rates for the hotel have recently went UP due to change in management, so it's time to transition into something more affordable for long term stay.
If you're asking "Why not apply for an apartment?" We are both on fixed income social security. I have a part time job that I've been working 9 years. The issue is I'm paying off past debt to rebuild my credit (private credit card & loan debt, nothing Rental). I would rather NOT keep paying application fees only to get denied because of debt that has NOTHING to do with my rental history. Wasting more money!
About US: We are 40 & 42 years of age. We have no children, No pets (though we do LOVE animals of all kinds), No drama or baggage or issues. We are a very tight knit couple (10+ years). We do not have friends or family that will EVER stop over (I am very strict about that). I am also very introverted & a gamer/bookworm when I am home, so I'm rarely seen most days outside of leaving for my part time job in the evening.
Serious inquiries only please as this is a serious post. I will be posting/looking daily between Craigslist & FB Marketplace. We are looking to move at the latest Monday, October 26th as we pay weekly here & that is the last day before we renew another week! Feel free to leave a phone number or detailed email as I check often throughout the day.
