HISTORY . . . . . . . .
The Orioles moved to Baltimore in 1954 and these were made not long after the move. The logo is the Hartzell bird, drawn by a writer for the Baltimore Sun. This precise logo appeared, according to MLB, on the 1954 opening day program. These probably date from 1955 to 1957 and were part of a series of MLB cuff link sets of similar glass bubble design.
The patent number 2472958 on the cuff links was granted in 1949 to Jacob M. Oldak, a jewelry designer from Brooklyn. It was for the novel toggle device, now common place. Mr. Oldak spent a fortune trying to enforce his patent, and was not especially successful. Probably made by Jewelry by Squire, a large maker who would have been more inclined to respect the patent.
