Didymium lampworking safety glasses for basic flame work $40
Didymium glasses are safety glasses used in glassblowing and blacksmithing that filter out the bright yellow “sodium flare” light from hot glass.
Oxy-acetylene burns hotter, reaching about 5,700°F. An oxy propane torch maxes out around 5,100°F. This difference matters for welding, but for cutting, heating, and brazing, propane’s heat is more than sufficient and often easier to control.
Propane produces a broader, more forgiving heat cone. I find this spread-out heat perfect for annealing or pre-heating large areas without accidentally piercing the metal.
