Hello!
This is a shot in the dark but I have to try!
I'm an advocate for my 2 good friends that are currently homeless in New Paltz. Genuinely kind and community minded men that have been helping me with my community work for over a year. Every week, these guys show up as volunteers to help me at the weekly community meal that I host. They help set up, keep things going, and spend hours with me after cleaning and closing down. They participate in conversations about how to better our community, they come to my paid job with me and work hard to earn some cash, and they have never imposed themselves on me even after I've offered them so much.
They are individuals with individual needs but I've lumped them together because they happen to both be my friends that help support my mission and they both happen to be homeless and I believe they deserve shelter. Especially as it gets cold.
Currently, one sleeps on a bench and the other in an old barn that he has recently been found and kicked out of. They don't need much. They would want to be able to walk to the village of New Paltz to be around community and get to their jobs. But they are happy with a roof and the solace of not being disturbed while asleep or treatened by police for finding shelter somewhere no one else is using.
Some friends and I will fundraise for their housing. We can pay many months up front. And the guys would be willing to work trade as well. If you have a shed that you don't use, one of the guys could live in there and you would hardly know. Maybe you have a house in new paltz that you were left by an old relative and it is need of a lot of work but you want someone to keep the squatters away.
We can sign some kind of contract, these are not the kind of people that would sue you for getting injured or something. Just two good friends that need a roof and willing to do the work to maintain it.
I'm getting desperate, rents in new paltz are absurd. The county doesn't care to keep people here when getting placed with DSS, most are shipped to other counties. My friends have a home and purpose here.
