"A princess must then be wed to... hmm. Interesting." "What? Who?" "The royal vizier." Jafar has the Sultan at the edge of his seat as he reads the "new" rules for the princess' marriage. He takes up nearly the entire 12 field 3-peghole page in this lot, rendered in graphite with color pencil and created by Disney Legend and Jafar's supervising animator Andreas Deja. The villain was inspired by Maleficent, Vincent Price, and a combination of the vizier and wicked sorcerer from the original tales and Deja helped to design him as well as animate him. Jafar contrasted the last character he supervised, Gaston, with his stylized appearance and exaggerated expressions and actions. The villain strove to become Sultan at any cost and proves that he will go to any length to do it throughout the film. His latest scheme includes sneakily changing Agrabah's ancient laws to marry Jasmine if no other suitor has been found, knowing the other princes will be driven off. He reads Jasmine's father the scroll with those laws in this detailed animation drawing created for the scene near the 47:59 timestamp, measuring about 11'' x 9.5'' on the page. The drawing is numbered 85 in the lower right corner and includes a timing chart in the upper right corner, along with the note "Dia Key". Very Good condition with light edge and handling wear.
