Selling the most valuable piece in my collection, my Dave Guardala Studio Tenor Saxophone mouthpiece.
This is a handmade original studio (SN 1319). I got it from the original owner who purchased it directly from Dave in the 80s. The bite plate is original.
I recently had it expertly refaced by Adam Neiwood, who has worked on pieces for many well-known players, including Brecker. The reface was well worth it at $400. He ultrasonically cleaned the piece, refaced it to ensure the table is perfectly flat, and evened out the rails to be perfectly symmetrical. He also closed it by .001. The result is an amazingly playing, vintage bright piece that has that classic Brecker sound.
I normally play openings around .100 but find this piece surprisingly easy to play. It is .001 away from what Brecker played. And this model of Guardala is basically what Brecker played his last 10 years.
I’m selling it because I prefer a darker sound.
If it’s listed it’s still available. Serious inquiries only. I am ONLY listing this locally. I’m not keen on shipping it.
Serious buyers can play test it. Pick up only in Ballard. Trade ups (tenor mouthpieces and any saxophones) considered. Trades of lower value not considered. I would also consider trading to a reputable saxophone technician for exchange of an overhaul on my vintage Conn Tenor.
