Antique Brass Balance Scale on Finished Wood Base with Drawer
This is an elegant, highly collectible antique apothecary or scientific equal-arm balance scale. Mounted on a handsome, solid finished wooden base, it features an integrated storage drawer underneath to hold weights and tools (some miscellaneous vintage components included inside the drawer, as pictured).
Key Features & Mechanism
• Arrestment Mechanism: Unlike simpler decorative scales, this piece is equipped with a functional front-mounted push-up lever/button. Engaging this lever raises the central column beam, lifting the pans to allow the scale to swing freely and measure accurately, minimizing wear on the delicate pivot points when not in use.
• Top Indicator: Features an inverted vertical pointer needle swinging against a brass index plate at the very top of the column for clear, center-aligned readings.
• Removable Pans: Includes two matching, naturally patinated brass pans hanging from delicate wire suspension loops.
Dimensions
• Base: 8.25 inches x 4.5 inches
• Height: 11 inches
Condition
Beautiful antique condition with a rich, authentic aged patina across all brass components. The wooden base shows minor surface wear consistent with age, lending it incredible character. The drawer slides smoothly, and the push-up lever mechanism is fully operational.
Perfect for antique collectors, scientific instrument enthusiasts, or as a sophisticated styling piece for a study, library, or mantle.
