For sale is a beautiful mid-century European impressionist landscape painting by listed German master artist Ludwig Sohler (1907–1998).
The painting depicts a tranquil, atmospheric landscape with rich, impasto brushwork modeling the dense foliage of birch and evergreen trees in the foreground, bordering a reflective pool of water. In the mid-ground, a lone figure walks down a path past a small structure, leading the eye toward a misty body of water dotted with sailboats in the far distance.
The back of the canvas features a handwritten German title: "Im Haspelmoor" (In the Haspelmoor), identifying the location as the historic Haspelmoor nature reserve, a famous ancient ice-age bog and moraine landscape located in Upper Bavaria, Germany. The reverse also bears an early inventory or gallery stamp notation and a clear signature on the lower right of the canvas face.

About the Artist: Ludwig Sohler (1907–1998)
Born the son of a German railway stationmaster, Ludwig Sohler initially trained as a mechanical engineer before dedicating his career fully to the fine arts. He studied at the prestigious Munich Academy of Fine Arts under celebrated German landscape painters Sebastian Bacher and Arno Lemke.
Sohler later undertook extensive study trips to Paris, which heavily informed his style, combining traditional German Romantic subject matter with a looser, light-filled Moderate Impressionist technique. He is highly regarded for his ability to capture light filtering through dense Bavarian forests, woodland pools, and rural Alpine foothills. His works are collected globally and consistently appear at European and American auction houses specializing in mid-century European realism.
