Babysan – A Private Look at the Japanese Occupation – Bill Hume – 1953 Hardcover, American Press – Very Good Condition – Veteran-Owned
This copy belonged to my father, who served during the Korean War era. While I cannot confirm exactly when he acquired it, it was stored carefully in his military chest for decades. Because of this, the book remains in very good condition, far better preserved than most examples of this title.
Babysan is one of the most recognizable pieces of post‑war GI culture. Bill Hume’s cartoons — originally published for American servicemen stationed in Japan — blend humor, cultural observation, and everyday experiences of occupation life. The book includes dozens of illustrations accompanied by commentary that captures the unique social environment of the early 1950s.
