Project Overview
We are developing "Birdie", an innovative smart golf grip that integrates motion sensors, grip-pressure sensors, a touchscreen display, a rechargeable battery, and wireless connectivity to provide golfers with real-time feedback and performance information.
We are seeking a skilled, locally based 3D CAD designer and prototype fabrication specialist to help bring the physical product to life.
This is a hands-on project involving an existing design concept, electronic components, and the creation of a functional, ergonomically comfortable golf-grip prototype.
Scope of Work
- Review and refine existing Birdie CAD/design files and dimensions.
- Develop or modify accurate, production-conscious 3D models.
- Design internal mounting structures and compartments for electronics, sensors, wiring, and a rechargeable circular battery.
- Integrate a compact round touchscreen into the grip's top-cap assembly.
- Account for pressure sensors and their placement beneath the grip surface.
- Design for assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and future revisions.
- Produce 3D-printed prototypes and perform fitment testing.
- Make necessary adjustments based on component fit, ergonomics, and testing feedback.
- Deliver final editable CAD files, STL/3MF files, and a complete prototype.
Ideally, I'll provide complete files and you just press "play."
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Onshape, or similar CAD software.
- Access to a quality 3D printer and experience with precision prototyping.
- Experience designing enclosures or housings for electronic devices.
- Familiarity with dimensional tolerances, fasteners, internal mounting systems, and assembly clearances.
- Experience with small consumer electronics, wearable devices, sporting equipment, or ergonomic product design is a plus.
- Ability to work from existing CAD files and improve designs without unnecessarily rebuilding everything.
- Willingness to meet locally to review components and test prototypes.
Project Requirements
Applicants must reside in the Greater Seattle / Puget Sound area, including Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Renton, Kent, Tacoma, Everett, or surrounding communities.
This is a prototype fabrication and mechanical-design assignment. Firmware programming and advanced electronics development are being handled separately.
An NDA and intellectual-property assignment agreement will be required before receiving confidential design files.
How to Apply
Please provide:
1. Your location within the Greater Seattle area.
2. Examples or photos of previous 3D-printed prototypes, preferably electronic enclosures or functional assemblies.
3. Your CAD software experience and available 3D-printing equipment.
4. Your hourly rate or proposed project-based pricing.
5. Your availability and estimated turnaround time.
The objective is to develop a functional, accurately fitted Birdie prototype with potential opportunities for continued work as the product advances toward manufacturing.
