The Truly Tiny Banana plant (Musa 'Truly Tiny') is the world’s smallest edible banana variety, reaching a mature height of just 2 to 4 feet.
Key Features
• Size: Grows 2–4 feet tall with a 2–3 foot spread, making it ideal for desktops, patios, balconies, and small containers.
• Appearance: Features broad, paddle-shaped green leaves that often display striking red or burgundy variegation or mottling when young.
• Fruit: Produces small, sweet, edible bananas (usually around 3 to 5 inches long depending on growing conditions) within 12 to 24 months.
• Hardiness: Thrives outdoors in USDA Zones 9–11. In colder climates, it can be easily grown in a pot and brought indoors as a houseplant for the winter.
Care Requirements
• Light: Full sun to very bright partial sun; indoors, it needs a exceptionally sunny window or a dedicated grow light.
• Soil: Rich, loose, and well-draining soil high in organic matter (ideal pH between 5.5 and 7.0).
• Water: Heavy drinker that requires regular, consistent watering during active growth, but the pot must never become waterlogged.
• Fertilizer: Heavy feeder needing frequent, regular fertilization (such as a balanced N/P/K blend) during the growing season.
