Three clocks: Seth Thomas (two) and Sessions sold as a group.
1. Seth Thomas Sonora Westminster chime clock, date stamped August, 1917. Mahogany Adamantine case having a beveled Girandole dial glass with silvered dial. This eight day time and strike clock has the quarter striking Sonora chime movement which strikes on four nested bells which must be heard to be appreciated. I have not attempted to run the clock but both the strike and chime trains do work. Clock has the original pendulum, but no key. Very clean original condition. Both the dial and movement are marked "Seth Thomas". Assume it will need cleaning and oiling.
2. Seth Thomas Adamantine mantle clock, circa 1905. The case is black with imitation green marble trim. There is an engraved design on the black portion of the clock that the flash obscures. Eight-day time and strike spring movement striking the half-hour on a cup bell and the hour on a deep toned cathedral gong. An original, untouched clock with oxidized bronze pillars, side ornaments, and feet, with the dial and bezel having a gold washed finish. Yes, Seth Thomas did mix the finishes of ornaments on the Adamantine clocks. This clock is most unusual in having a cast brass bezel with a beveled glass. The dial and movement and both marked "Seth Thomas". The clock does have the original pendulum bob, but I do not have a key for it. Clock keys can be purchased from Timesavers for around $4.00. The time and strike arbors take a American size six key, but I don't know the size of the small arbor to adjust the rate. The strike train runs on the clock, but the time train does not. The movement is dry and dirty so it will require service. Seth Thomas purchased the patent for bonding Adamantine (a form of celluloid) to wood and was the exclusive maker of these clocks. The concept was to produce an imitation of the popular French marble clocks at a price the average person could afford, and they were a runaway success being produced for over 40 years.
3. Sessions “Florentine No. 1" black enameled mantle clock with unusual textured finish, circa 1925. Dial is marked "Sessions" and "Made in USA". Unusual lion's feet on the front of the clock with fancy handles on each side. Excellent paper labels on the back and bottom of the case. Eight-day pendulum movement striking the hours and half-hours on a cathedral gong. The correct pendulum is with the clock, but the key is damaged on the small end. Condition: Not running. The clock needs cleaning/oiling and the strike spring appears to be broken near the arbor end. A new end could possibly be made for the spring.
Price for the three: $225 - cash only. Local sale only - I will not separate or ship the clocks. Meet in a public place during daylight hours to inspect and purchase. If you see the ad the clocks are available. It will be removed as soon as they have sold. Buy local and save the cost of shipping and risk of damage from careless packing.
An identical Sonora chime clock sold in April on eBay for $395.
