Alvin Del Chamblee was an Atlanta‑born baritone singer, playwright, and painter who settled in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1952. He became active in the Twin Cities arts community in the late 1960s, exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair, University of Minnesota, Paul Larson Galleries, the Atlanta University Black Artists Exhibition, and the Carnegie Institute Master Black Artists Series. Two of his works are held in the Minnesota Historical Society’s permanent collection.
This 1969 winter landscape reflects Chamblee’s early exploration of regional subjects, characterized by quiet atmosphere, simplified forms, and expressive brushwork.
