This gemstone is Charoite. It is found in Siberia. This piece has dynamic purple to violet with splashes of black and brown. Charoite can exhibit various shades of violet to purple and sometimes black or brown. It was first discovered in the 1940's. In 1978 the name "Charoite" was confirmed by the Commission on New Mineral Species. This gemstone is oval in shape. It measures 28.80 x 22.09 mm. That's about 1.13 x .87 inch. It weighs 28.45 carats. This gemstone has formed in the earth. This natural formation can sometimes leave fractures so it is sometimes protected with hardeners.
