A very rare display cabinet and base from Charleston, SC. The oak cabinet bears the original manuf. plate J. Riswig Chicago, a well-regarded maker of display cabinets in the late 19th and early 20th century. Known for very high quality and unusual designs, this J. Riswig piece is in good condition, with original glass, save one side panel, which has been replaced. There are some scratches in spots around the oak trim, probably from refinishing. The rear has full access with full length, swinging doors with a latch. The cabinet by itself measures 50 " high, 48 " wide and 22" deep. There three heavy glass shelves for the inside of the case.
The base, which measures 76.5 " in width, 33" tall and 30" deep, is solid, well-constructed and as heavy as it is beautiful. It came from a Charleston man whose grandfather had it in his store downtown on Kings Street. Where it was before that, I have no idea. Back of base is open with shelving for maximum storage.
This unique display case and base served us as a silver cabinet for many years and now that we have retired, have little use and even less space for it. I hate to let go of something this rare, well-made and beautiful. I appreciate your interest.
