Adjust to precision zero by sliding the lower and upper weights (black, rectangular seen in photos) all the way to the left (to zero) and then fine tun with the silver screw in the close-up photo, turning left or right until the pointer on the right end is floating free, exactly on zero. You may only need to do this once a year.
