Sarah is an 18-year-old young woman with developmental disabilities who will have professional support in Washington State. We are looking for another young woman with developmental disabilities whose family is also planning for a safe, stable living arrangement.
Sarah is very sweet and continues to make progress. She can complete about half of her daily tasks with verbal reminders, encouragement, or step-by-step prompting. She may wear protective underwear, but she is often able to remain dry for six to ten hours.
The right roommate would be kind, honest, calm, and comfortable sharing a home where professional staff provide support. Each young woman would have her own bedroom, privacy, individualized care plan, and personal routine.
For Sarah’s safety, her family may use clearly disclosed monitoring in Sarah’s own designated care areas. Any monitoring must be legal, carefully limited, and agreed upon in writing. It would never include the roommate’s bedroom, bathroom, or other private space.
I am Sarah’s mother, Monica. I plan to visit regularly—usually once each week and on some weekends. I will also take Sarah to medical appointments, school-related activities, community outings, and provide closer support when she is acutely ill or needs extra monitoring.
We hope to connect with a family that values honesty, transparency, kindness, safety, and respectful communication. Before making any decision, both young women should have several supported visits together so we can make sure they feel safe and comfortable with each other.
This is not simply about filling a room. We are hoping to build a peaceful, caring home where both young women can grow, enjoy activities, and receive the support they need.
