Hi:
I was going to make one perfect boat from the two or get a few parts and have two great boats.
Too much going on in life (and I have a Potter 15 to rehab that will take my attention).
Here's what these are:
1971 Flying Junior FJ sailboat. Complete boat. Water tight. I sailed this two days on Lake Champlain about three years ago. In light and heavy wind.
Has tiller, rudder, swing down keel, all rigging, mast, boom, and one smaller sail. The regular main and jib were lost on Lake Champlain. Was flying the smaller one that day with other two aboard and they left the boat. I'm the second owner! Was one family owned since new on the Hero Islands :).
this boat could use one thing: Spreader tip near the top of the mast was dislodged during gale wind so that should be supported better / replaced. Also there is a stainless steel screw that helps tie off a sheet in the boat that is loose and could use a larger screw installed to hold it down better for sailing convenience.
1995 Flying Junior FJ sailboat. Built in Italy by Alpa.
This style of boat is self bailing with ballast in under the seats and self bailing fiberglass design with twin scuppers in the rear to drain and amount of water out fast.
Came with boom but NO MAST, and two sails, main and jib sail and all other rigging. More modern boat with better condition stainless steel rigging - it's simply newer than the American built 1973 so the stainless looks a bit better all around.
The mast steps are different on both boats. I 'was gonna' change out the mast heel from the older FJ and use it on the newer Alpa FJ boat. Never got to do that. Or 'was gonna' build a custom bracket from metal to hold the mast in without having to order and change out the mast heel. Either route is possible.
What is possible is to sail immediately with the older boat. I may try to fabricate something to use the newer one.
Both boats sold together for very good / crazy deal of $600.
I'd sell the older Flying Junior for $300 complete with the mast or $250 without the mast so I can or someone could use it with the newer boat. Your choice.
I'd sell the newer Alpa Flying Junior for $400.
One boat is currently on a loaner trailer. It could be transported with that but I need to return the trailer to my Father in law after delivery. The other older FJ is resting on top of 6 car tires. Both have been covered in my aluminum shed or barn for over a year out of the elements (before that they were tarped outside all winter).
The newer boat weighs in a little more about 200 pounds I've read. the older one is and feels much lighter. 140 lbs I've read. Either boat can be swung around solo by hand on a trailer and easily lifted from the front by hand.
