This is an antique twisted iron ice cream table and four chair set we've enjoyed for the past 35 years. Very faint remnants of a marking on underside of table matches to examples of "A.H. Andrews Co. Manufacturers Chicago". That would suggest manufacture date is in the 1890's. Many of these sets were made and in different levels of quality by Andrews and other companies. This set is unique in that it appears to be original, relatively untouched condition. We have not done anything to it since we acquired it - I cannot speak to what might have been done to it for up to 100 years prior to that.
There is evidence of gold/copper color paint in the less used areas (rear area of chairs) - otherwise the iron twists appear as honest wear. A very nice patina overall - visually very appealing from an authentic, vintage perspective.
The oak table top is sturdy, nicely contoured edge and decorative bump out feature where the four frame sections connect. There is a crack across the table top - it appears to be from shrinkage on a glued seam - not from mishandling. Appears to be a dovetail-like connection from the edge view of the crack. Looks to be original, untouched (definitely not refurbished). The screws connecting legs are flat blade - one is missing. Wild guess is that the light brown paint on the iron fittings securing table top was applied to avoid Sunday best dresses and slacks from getting stains rubbing on the raw iron connector plate (rust) while sitting at the table enjoying a treat. It only appears on the inside area of the bottom of table top.
All chairs are sturdy, complete and gently used, but not abused. The seats are thin wood. A few of the seat connectors are square nuts, most are hex nuts. A very cool vintage item.
Table top diameter is 30 inches. Table top height is 30 inches. Chair back height is approximately 34.5 inches. Chair feet are 17 inches apart (i.e. a square footprint) at widest point at floor. Chair seat height is 17.5 inches from floor. Chair seat diameter is 14.5 inches.
