Position Overview
The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the physical health, cleanliness, and safety of our campus facilities. Working under the direction of the Facilities Director, this individual ensures classrooms, administrative offices, restrooms, gymnasiums, and common areas are sanitized, properly maintained, and ready for daily school activities and special campus events.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning & Sanitation
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors across classrooms, hallways, offices, and large gathering spaces (cafeteria, gym).
Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms and locker rooms daily using commercial-grade cleaning supplies.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout campus; replace liners and transport waste to outdoor dumpsters.
Disinfect high-touch surfaces, including door handles, light switches, water fountains, and railings.
Clean interior and exterior entryway glass, windows, whiteboards, and fixtures.
Facility Care & Event Support
Assist with basic setups, tear-downs, and room transitions for chapel services, athletic events, assemblies, and school banquets.
Perform seasonal deep-cleaning tasks during breaks (e.g., floor stripping/waxing, carpet extraction, baseboard and vent cleaning).
Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or property damage to the Facilities Director.
Perform minor routine facility tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, minor unclogging, touching up paint).
Safety & Security
Follow proper chemical handling, storage, and dilution protocols in compliance with OSHA and SDS standards.
Ensure classrooms, gates, exterior doors, and facilities are secured and locked at the end of each shift.
Monitor campus grounds for litter, safety obstacles, or potential hazards.
Spiritual & Character Requirements
A committed Christian with an active personal faith, agreeing with and supporting the Statement of Faith and mission of Redding Christian School.
Demonstrates high integrity, reliability, a strong work ethic, and a servant’s heart.
Conducts oneself in a manner appropriate for a Christian school environment, serving as a positive role model around students, parents, and staff.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience: 1+ years of commercial, institutional, or school custodial experience preferred, but willing to train a motivated candidate with strong mechanical or cleaning aptitude.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and stoop for extended periods.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs regularly.
Comfortable operating commercial floor scrubbers, vacuums, ladders, and basic maintenance equipment.
Background Check: Ability to pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) / FBI fingerprint clearance.
