From San Bernardino County, CA. Approx 10 lbs. Lighter than one would expect a sphere of this size to be. This is a strong indicator of a hollow cavity inside! No guarantee of course. I have seen beautiful Thunder Eggs, as well as Geodes, from that area. It may be a Thunder Egg! But, Geode seems more likely.
The last photos, of opened specimens, are from the same region. Again, this one is a mystery, until it gets opened, if it does. But, similar contents seem likely.
For myself, I would leave it as is. The value of it as a display piece, and topic of speculation, would mean more to me even than a beautiful crystalized interior. But, it's your call!
I have smaller, opened, specimens from the same region. Beautiful! Again, no way to be sure, but they are a clue.
