Originally this listing was going to be just for the new, sealed Bioshock Infinite: The Complete Edition but I decided to include my used copy of Bioshock 1, The Original Edition, as a bonus.
The original BioShock (2007) is a critically acclaimed, atmospheric first-person shooter set in the decaying underwater city of Rapture. BioShock Infinite: The Complete Edition (2014) takes the series above the clouds to the floating city of Columbia, bundling the acclaimed base game with all major story expansions and upgrade packs.
BioShock (The Original)
Set in 1960, the original game follows Jack, the lone survivor of a plane crash in the Atlantic Ocean. He discovers a lighthouse that leads him down to Rapture, a utopian underwater metropolis created by visionary Andrew Ryan meant to be a refuge for society's elite, free from government and religious control. However, the discovery of "ADAM," a substance that grants superhuman abilities, led to the city's societal collapse and rampant genetic mutation.
- Gameplay Mechanics: You fight grotesque mutated citizens using a combination of traditional firearms, melee weapons, and "Plasmids"—genetic alterations that give you powers like shooting fire, generating electricity, or unleashing swarms of insects.
- The Moral Choice: Throughout the game, you encounter "Little Sisters" (genetically altered children) who harvest ADAM, and their giant, armored protectors known as "Big Daddies." You must decide whether to save the Little Sisters or harvest them for maximum power, which impacts the story's ending.
BioShock Infinite: The Complete Edition
Released in 2013 and later bundled into The Complete Edition, this game serves as an ideological and narrative counterpart to the original BioShock. Instead of a dark, claustrophobic ocean floor, it is set in 1912 aboard Columbia, a sunlit, steampunk-inspired city suspended in the sky.
- The Story: You play as Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former Pinkerton agent tasked with infiltrating Columbia to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman with the mysterious ability to open rifts (or "Tears") to alternate dimensions.
- Gameplay Differences: Combat is faster and more dynamic, allowing you to ride motorized "Sky-Lines" to traverse the battlefield. Elizabeth accompanies you throughout the journey, providing ammo, health, and summoning items through tears during combat.
