Rare Vintage 1920s-1930s Steering Wheel – 14.5" 4-Spoke Hot Rod / Rat Rod Project
Description
For sale is a rare vintage 14 ½ inch pre-war (1920s–1930s) "Speedster / Sports Accessory” 4-spoke steering wheel.
Unlike the common, massive 17-to-18-inch truck and tractor wheels of the era, this is a highly desirable 14.5-inch compact diameter wheel. It features a completely flat iron spider core with an open, flat-backed hub and a single locating keyway slot.
This was likely a period-correct, pre-war aftermarket accessory wheel designed for early speedsters or custom sports builds to provide better cockpit clearance than massive factory wheels.
This compact size makes it an absolute holy grail find for traditional Hot Rod, Rat Rod, Sprint Car, or T-Bucket builders. It provides excellent cockpit clearance and a classic aggressive, period-correct look without crowding the driver's knees.
Many builders choose to strip the failing outer composition coating completely down to the bare iron spider, then wrap it in rope or leather for a killer custom finish.
