Remarks -
* Shimano Altus Hyperdrive Compact-C cranksets have alloy arms and long-wearing steel chain rings. Ours are low wear, low mileage examples. Pedal and puller threads are good, tested.
* Tips on removing (pulling) square taper crank arms -
- make sure the threads on the puller chuck are in good shape, good start thread.
- clean the threads on the crank with a wire brush or toothbrush; inspect for metal shavings indicate prior damage likely.
- oil the threads on the chuck.
- turn the chuck into the crank threads by hand, it needs to be snugged with a wrench the last 1/8 turn to fully seat it.
VIP: using a removal tool with worn threads, dry, not fully seated, and dirty or weak crank threads can ruin the piece.
