Antique frame from my Great Aunt who passed away (1887-1954).. Was located in a closet, intack, but "worn".(Pic of back side)
It was cleaned and lightly wood conditioned, then painted to compliment the hand crosstitch fantasy carousel horse. It has Bubble Glass.... Rare and perfect condition.. Appraised age around the end of the late 1800's to 1920's.. painted the wood in a grayish white, gold spackle painted round the oval edge and added a gold solid color in the carved, raised trim. There are two tiny cracks in the wood but the frame is stable....
The crosstitch is personally worked on cotton. fabric. An oval piece of mauve satin moire fabric for background, then a light gray crosstitch fabric. The "house" shape is bordered by two rows of 1/8" string pearls. Horse stands on a round base that is solid crosstitch, scalloped front edge, with string beaded brown and white pearls hanging from the points..The horse is grays & whites, fluffy tail of pink, tans, and soft green..(Vintage carousel crosstitch book) ..The saddle blanket is scalloped and each drop point has a tiny dark blue tassel with a gold bead.. Pink sadde blanket, gold thread accent.. Pole is white and gold metallic thread, sparkle all the way up to beaded, multi strings, hanging off the pole top with a crosstitch rose... Very elaborate piece... OOAK.... Frame is 16" W x 22.5" Tall.... Sold as is.. Frame and Art work is not sold separately.. Located in Claxton..Clinton Hwy at Lonesome Dove... Shown by appointment.
