Janice Gayle is a 1979 Hunter 37 Cutter, the well-regarded John Cherubini design. I purchased her as a refit project and have completed a considerable amount of work, particularly below decks, but I have other boats and simply don't have the time to finish her.
This is a project boat and is being sold as-is. She is not presently ready to sail away.
The refit is approximately 50% complete. Much of the interior has been renovated with liveaboard use in mind, including wood flooring, a large galley countertop and sink, refinished living and sleeping areas, and improved storage. The Hunter 37 Cutter has an exceptionally spacious interior and makes an appealing liveaboard or cruising platform.
I removed the old electrical and plumbing systems as part of the refit. Temporary wiring is installed for lights, galley use and the bilge, but the permanent systems need to be completed.
She has an Atomic Universal diesel, installed as a replacement engine from a Catalina. I have never attempted to start the engine and make no representation regarding its present operating condition.
Sails and rigging include:
Mainsail
Two 127.5% genoas
Staysail
New running rigging
New Dyneema lifelines
Sails are in fair condition.
Known work remaining includes approximately five soft areas in the deck, installation of a tiller, completion of the electrical and plumbing systems, and general completion of the refit and cosmetics.
There is plenty left to do, but this is not an untouched or abandoned 37-footer. A substantial amount of interior work has already been completed, and she offers someone willing to finish the project a lot of boat: a 37-foot Cherubini-designed cutter with diesel power, a four-sail inventory and a genuinely livable interior.
I am selling because I no longer have the time to complete the project.
$5,500 OBO. Serious offers considered.
I am happy to tell a prospective buyer exactly what I have done, what remains to be done, and what I know—and don't know—about the boat.
