From a 2000 Outback; I believe it was the original engine. It had a rod knock but ran OK when removed from the car in 2017. Had recently had new head gaskets and head work. Has been stored covered with the spark plugs and fuel injection still installed. The crank pulley turns by hand with a normal amount of resistance. I don't believe that anything has been damaged in storage.
