The starting salary range for this position is $50,412.00 to $59,760.00, with most candidates starting at $50,412.00. This is a full-time, permanent, classified, overtime-eligible position with the Pierce College District. The main work location is Fort Steilacoom campus and standard work hours are between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday. This position reports directly to the Embedded Math Specialist and requires regular and consistent attendance. This position is eligible for one day of telework per week after the probationary period.

The Math Center Program Specialist helps advance the equity-centered mission of Pierce College by connecting students with valuable learning support and campus resources, keeping marginalized, socially diverse, and systemically nondominant students at the center of their work. General tasks include overseeing the daily operations of Math Center spaces; supervising student and part-time hourly staff; assisting in the implementation of staff training and professional development programs for classroom-embedded support, training tutors to work effectively with faculty and students within grounded, hybrid, and online classrooms; creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for learning; triaging student needs, guiding students to applicable services; tutoring for students in mathematics; and contributing to the establishment of antiracist program standards, services, and procedures. The person in this position will work with the embedded math specialist to: assess the effectiveness of the embedded work in reaching and working with historically non-dominant students from underserved racial and cultural communities, as well as other marginalized student cohorts; provide counsel and coaching to tutoring staff that supports culturally affirming and inclusive practice; and help conduct reviews of student satisfaction with program services.
Program specialists are also key collaborators in the creation and fostering of a supportive team culture. In order to promote equitable student access and success, the program specialist fosters empowering academic and social experiences for students and part-time student and temporary staff with active listening, affirmation, and genuine empathy that honors each student and staff member’s journey. Listening, observing, valuing and validating, embracing, and building meaningful relationships with students in the tutoring center is at the heart of this position.
