This Cortez Acoustic Guitar, Model J 6000, Serial #80139 features a solid Spruce top, Rosewood sides, a Rosewood Verneer back, and real Abalone Body Inlays and binding. It plays great with low action and sounds great too. Included is what appears to be a very nice Gator or Yamaha Hardshell Case in excellent condition.
A Cortez J-6000 with serial #80139 equates that the first digit 8, using available historical data, verify it was manufactured in the late 1970s (likely 1978–1980).
Manufacturing Details: Serial #80139 identifies it as a vintage and unique Lawsuit Era instrument. These guitars are well constructed and have great sound and action. They’re exact knock-offs of Martin’s celebrated D-45, right down to the Abalone trim, made by the leader in the field of Japanese instruments, Jack Westheimer.
Serial Number Analysis: Cortley/Cortez serial decoding states the first digit being 80193, indicates the year, (7 for 1977/1978, 8 for 1979/1980).
Due to the exact duplication by Cortez of Martin’s D-35, Martin filed a Cease and Desist lawsuit demanding Cortez stop using headstock shapes and logos that were identical to Martin’s trademarked designs. As a direct result after 1980, Cortez was forced to stop making their J 6000 with the exact Martin-style "square shoulder" headstock shape, and revise their logo on their J-6000 because Cortez had so closely mimicked the "C.F. Martin and Co." logo. The history of Cortez J-6000 guitars made between 1978 - 1980 makes them unique due to the fact that these guitars were all exact copies of one of the finest acoustic guitars ever made.
This rare Cortez J-6000 is a Dreadnought style guitar. It’s 40 plus yrs old, regarded as an exact copy of the Martin D-45. Key Specifications include: Top made of solid Spruce. The back and sides, in this high-end copy are made of Brazilian Rosewood, and this gorgeous J 6000 has Abalone trim and fretboard inlays.
Cortez J 6000 guitars vintage 1978-80 are known for high-quality construction and craftsmanship, and depending on condition are considered very rare and sought after by collectors.
