PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
I am a professional academic editor, proofreader, and writing consultant who has worked in this field for 20+ years. I have edited/proofread/critiqued 30+ million words (PhD theses, admissions essays, business correspondence, CVs, articles for submission to peer-reviewed academic journals, etc.), and I am a trained language teacher.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I completed my PhD at a top university. I am also the holder of an undergraduate degree, two master’s degrees, a diploma in language education, and various certificates in editing and proofreading. I recently completed my TEFL/TESOL certification.
SERVICES
I will ensure that your document is not only crystal clear but also of the highest possible quality in terms of word choice, sentence structure, tone, organization, and overall readability. This will ensure that anyone who reads your writing will focus on the content without being distracted by errors. I am an exceedingly detail-oriented editor/proofreader. I am comfortable editing/proofreading in Canadian, American, and British English, and I have a solid grasp of the subtle differences between them that extend beyond mere spelling. I use Microsoft WORD’s tracked changes feature. In short, you email your WORD document to me, I edit/proofread it, and I return it to you with my revisions, suggestions, explanations for changes, and any other relevant comments. I also return a completely clean copy that is ready for submission.
SPECIALTY AREAS
Although I edit and proofread in a wide range of fields, I am most comfortable working with documents that lean toward the humanities and social sciences and least comfortable with the natural sciences. Additionally, one of speciality areas is working with clients who speak English as a second language. If I believe that your document falls outside the realm of my expertise, I will point you in the direction of a suitable editing/proofreading service.
PRICING and TURNAROUND
For academic documents, I typically charge 5 cents per word for editing and 2.5 cents per word for proofreading. However, my rates depend primarily on the type and length of the document, the depth and breadth of the content, the extent of the editing and/or proofreading required, and whether the document needs to be returned within five hours or five days. When you email me your WORD document and/or the relevant details (purpose of document, word count, etc.), please include the required turnaround, as this has a direct bearing on the quote. I will reply with a precise quote as soon as possible; this is typically within a couple of hours but will take no longer than 24 hours. I also understand budgetary constraints, so if my rates seem to fall outside of your budget, still drop me a line so we can explore options that would work for us both.
FREE SAMPLE EDIT/PROOFREAD
I am always eager to provide a free sample edit/proofread to demonstrate the quality of my work. I am confident that once this is done, you will be happy to entrust your entire manuscript to me so that I can make it the very best it can be.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
I accept payment via INTERAC, PayPal, and Wise. Upon receiving a down payment of 50%, I begin working on your document. Once I complete the work, I inform you that your revised document is ready. Upon receiving the balance owing, I release the revised documents to you.
CONFIDENTIALITY
All documents are kept confidential and are typically deleted within five days of job completion.
