Phalanx Construction is looking for one reliable, capable person to work directly alongside the owner on a variety of construction projects. Most of the work will be between Lion’s Bay and Deep Cove ( North Shore) as well as downtown Vancouver; candidates should reside within reasonable distance or within this geographical area.
This is not just a general labour position. The best description is a construction squire or the more boring: general contractor’s assistant. A skilled tradesperson may also make a good candidate. Most of the work will be hands-on construction, but the role is intentionally broad. We’re looking for someone who can become a dependable second set of hands and take on more responsibility over time. I may end up needing you to conduct administrative work such as updating excel spreadsheets or drafting emails to engineers/architects.
We are looking for someone who can commit at least until June 2027, and ideally longer term. The owner has a military background and therefore there will be a strong emphasis on training, so this is best suited to someone who wants to develop their skills rather than treat it as a short-term job.

Our current pipeline includes:
• One house extension in West Van
• An apartment renovation downtown
• A larger Gastown office-to-hotel conversion renovation, partly owned by Phalanx Construction's owner
• One slow paced house renovation in North Van

What the Work Looks Like
Typical work may include:
• Carpentry, framing and finishings
• Demolition and site preparation
• Landscaping and paving stones
• Painting, Drywalling
• Material pickups and deliveries
• Basic plumbing and electrical
• Keeping jobsites organized and relaying info from sub trades to owner
*Driver’s license is a requirement – an N is acceptable
Because this is a small company, some tasks and hours will fall outside normal expectations.
Who We’re Looking For:
Personality, trust and reliability matter a lot. Several upcoming projects are properties owned by me or my family, meaning you will sometimes be exposed to personal information and spend long days working directly alongside me.
Construction experience is an asset, but we are more interested in someone competent, dependable and adaptable than someone who specializes in only one trade. Physical strength and aggression is an asset as it is difficult to train that. Broad intellectual/academic curiosity may be a small asset as well.
