Spanish tutor native from Mexico City, Columbia University graduate, with over 20 years of experience teaching Spanish in New York City.
I teach clear, neutral Spanish that works for Mexico, Latin America, and Spain.
I specialize in adult learners who want practical Spanish for travel, work, and long‑term fluency, from complete beginners to advanced.
Experience
Since 2003 I’ve taught Spanish one‑on‑one to adults at all levels, in homes, universities, schools, and companies across NYC.
I have helped students prepare for exams, job interviews, study abroad, and relocation to Spanish‑speaking countries.
I have prepared U.S. consuls and embassy personnel for their official Spanish certification exams, and I currently tutor faculty members in the History Department at Columbia University.
Over the years I’ve taught more than 1,000 students, and references are available upon request.
Earlier in my career I also worked for several years in New York in information technology and journalism for The Wall Street Journal / Dow Jones.
Lessons can include:
- Solid grammar explained in clear, everyday language
- Conversation practice for real situations (travel, work, social life)
- Listening practice with audio and video adapted to your level
- Reading and writing, if you need them for work or study
- Accent and pronunciation work so you sound more natural
We can also use AI tools for extra practice, but they cannot replace a real teacher.
Fast, messy, slang‑heavy audio often confuses software, and only a real person can correct pronunciation and help you sound natural in real conversations.
Availability
I currently work with a group of regular students and keep my schedule flexible for serious new learners.
We can usually find a time on weekdays or weekends, in the morning, afternoon, or some evenings.
Rates:
- Standard rate: $25 for a 60‑minute online lesson
- Discounted block: $35 for 2 continuous hours
New student trial offer: your first 60‑minute online lesson is $15.
You can try one class at this lower rate to see if my style works for you.
I also speak working Italian, so if your first language is Italian we can, when helpful, clarify some points in Italian and take advantage of how close Italian and Spanish are.
