I’m a 34 year old nerdy dude with his shit together but I’m a complete doofus when it comes to dating. I have hobbies, meaningful friendships, I love my dad, and I’ve been told I’m a good-looking guy.
The bane of my existence is dating and romance. The goal is a long-term relationship, but sometimes I just want to have fun in a safe, emotional way. But it’s hard for me to find anyone. I’ve had girlfriends before, but something about post-Covid dating has got me scratching my head.
My biggest problem is that I simply do not go on many dates. I left the apps, because they were degrading my mental health and I didn’t find them efficient to actually meet people in RL. These days, I meet women all the time who I’d like to go on a date with - we swap contact info, but I rarely hear back. I’ve also tried speed dating and mindful dating events.
I really don’t want to go back on the apps, so I’ve been brainstorming different ways of meeting women in a dating context. Matchmaking came to mind, but it can be very expensive ($10,000 on the low end), and results aren’t guaranteed. So I thought of a crazy idea.
You, fellow Craigslistian, will become my matchmaker.
Here’s what I’m thinking: we meet on a video call for 30 minutes, and I’ll introduce myself and give you an idea of my personality and what I’m looking for. If you make an introduction and I meet the person in real life, I’ll give you $25 per referral. (I can give you pictures to send them if you think it might be a fit, and vice versa)
Here’s the gist of what who I’m looking for, based on who I’ve vibed with historically. All of these things apply to me as well (I’m a man though, lol)
- A woman between the ages of 27-35
- Someone looking for a deep emotional connection
- A kind, gentle soul
- In good physical shape
- Lives in the NYC area
- Loves reading
- Loves talking about abstract topics like philosophy, politics, history, or why people behave the way they do
- Values mindfulness or meditation
- In therapy or values self-reflection
- Stable-enough financial situation (ie, not going broke and having to move out of NYC in the next year or three)
- Identifies as an artist - has creative hobbies, like writing, painting, or playing music
- Introvert or introvert adjacent
- Tuned into the state of our tumultuous world but carving out a small source of optimism
- Does not smoke tobacco, drink heavily, smoke pot constantly, or do hard drugs
- Gives a shit about politics beyond “orange man bad”
- Doesn’t need to have kids in the next 1-3 years
- A yearner
If you know someone who might fit the bill, I’d love to hop on a video call to learn more!
